Resource - Economics Sectors Posters – Careers in Economics

Introduction

This set of careers posters introduces students to the wide range of sectors connected to economics, from climate and sustainability to healthcare, AI, government and international development.


Each poster highlights real careers, key transferable skills, sectors of employment and possible progression routes into economics-related jobs. The resources are designed to challenge stereotypes about economics and help students connect classroom learning to future opportunities.


Who is the resource aimed at?

Suitable for Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students (14–18 year olds).


Useful for Economics, Business, PSHE, Citizenship and Careers lessons, as well as classroom displays and careers events.


How can the resource be used?

The posters can be:

  • Displayed in classrooms, corridors or careers spaces

  • Used as discussion prompts during lessons or tutor time

  • Used for carousel activities exploring different career pathways

  • Linked to current affairs and real-world economic issues

  • Used to support options evenings and progression conversations

Students can also compare sectors, identify transferable skills and reflect on careers linked to their own interests.


How does the resource link to the curriculum?

The posters support curriculum themes including:

  • Sustainability and climate change

  • Public policy and government

  • Global development

  • Data and technology

  • Behavioural economics and decision-making

  • Health and wellbeing

They also reinforce employability skills such as critical thinking, communication, analysis and decision-making.


How long will the activity take?

The posters can support quick 5–10 minute starter activities, tutor discussions or full lesson carousel tasks lasting up to 50 minutes.
