Introduction
In 1916 an Irish uprising known as the Easter Rising broke out, leading to civil war and the country becoming a self-governing state separate from Britain. But how did this rebellion come about? And who were the rebels prepared to give their lives to fight against British rule?
This video is part of our school series 'Representation, Protest and Political Movement’, which looks at the intersection of economics, politics and history and the effect on modern society. It is based on the published research The deep roots of rebellion (Gaia Narciso, Battista Severgnini).
The project is a partnership between Discover Economics, the ESRC CAGE Research Centre and the All-Ireland Centre of Excellence in Economics, History and Policy (CEPH).
